Ghale Gaun Tour

3 Days

A Gurung village in Lamjung that runs its own homestay programme, under Manaslu and the Annapurnas.

Overview

Ghale Gaun sits at around 2,100 metres in Lamjung, north-east of Pokhara, and was one of the first villages in Nepal to organise community homestays. Guests stay in family houses, eat what the household eats, and the income is shared across the village rather than going to an outside operator.

From the ridge the view takes in Manaslu, Himalchuli, Buddha Himal and the Annapurnas. The village keeps its Gurung traditions actively rather than for display – dress, dance, language and the Rodhi houses where young people traditionally gathered.

It asks a little more of a visitor than a hotel does, and gives back a good deal more.
