An early-morning fixed-wing flight east along the range, with Everest at the turn.
Overview
The mountain flight leaves Kathmandu shortly after dawn, tracks east along the Himalaya and turns back at Everest. It lasts about an hour, and in that hour you pass Langtang, Gauri Shankar, Cho Oyu, Lhotse, Makalu and Everest itself, close enough to pick out the Khumbu icefall.
Every seat is a window seat, the aircraft are small, and passengers are called forward to the flight deck one at a time for the view straight ahead. It runs from October through to about April, when the mornings are clearest.
The one honest caveat: it depends entirely on weather, and flights are cancelled or delayed rather than flown into cloud. We plan it early in a trip so there is room to try again.
