A stone-built Gurung village facing Annapurna South and Machhapuchhre.
Overview
Ghandruk stands at about 2,000 metres in the Annapurna foothills, a couple of hours by road from Pokhara and then a walk in. It is the largest Gurung settlement in the region – slate roofs, stone-paved lanes, and terraces dropping away below towards the Modi Khola.
The view is the reason people come: Annapurna South and Hiunchuli fill the head of the valley, with the fishtail of Machhapuchhre alongside. There is a Gurung museum in the village, and a long history of Gurkha service that most families can tell you about first-hand.
Reachable as a short trip in its own right, or as the first night of the Annapurna Base Camp and Poon Hill routes.
