Kakani Hike

1 Day

A short hill walk on the north-west rim of the Kathmandu Valley, about an hour and a half from the city.

Overview

Kakani sits at a little over 2,000 metres on the ridge above Kathmandu, looking north across the Trishuli valley to Ganesh Himal, Langtang and, in clear winter air, the peaks beyond. It is one of the closest places to the city where the Himalaya fill the horizon rather than appear as a distant line.

The walking is gentle – forest road and ridge path through rhododendron and pine, past terraced fields and the memorial garden to the 1992 Thai Airways crash. It suits a first day in Nepal, a family group, or anyone who wants mountain views without the commitment of a trek.

We arrange transport from your hotel, a guide who knows the ridge, and lunch on the way. The route and pace are set to suit whoever is walking.
