Walk the eastern rim of the Kathmandu Valley between Nagarkot, Changunarayan and the villages along the ridge.
Overview
Nagarkot stands at about 2,175 metres on the valley’s eastern rim, and the ridge either side of it makes some of the best short walking near Kathmandu. The usual line runs down to Changunarayan, the oldest temple in the valley, through pine forest and farmland with the Himalaya at your shoulder the whole way.
The walking is downhill more often than up, and villages along the route mean tea and lunch are never far. On a clear morning the view runs from Annapurna in the west round to Everest in the east.
Often combined with a night at Nagarkot for the sunrise, then walking out the following morning while the light is still on the peaks.
