Phewa Lake, Sarangkot at sunrise and the Annapurnas standing directly above the town.
Overview
No city in Nepal is closer to big mountains than Pokhara. Machhapuchhre rises almost 7,000 metres above a lake at 800, close enough that on a still morning the whole range is reflected in the water.
The days here are easy ones: a boat across Phewa to Tal Barahi, the climb or drive to Sarangkot for sunrise, the World Peace Pagoda on the ridge opposite, Devi’s Fall and the Gupteshwor cave beneath it, and the International Mountain Museum. Lakeside itself is made for walking in the evening.
It works as a two-night stop, as the start or end of an Annapurna trek, or as the whole holiday for people who want mountains without walking into them.
