Rara National Park

10 Days

Nepal’s smallest national park, built around its largest lake.

Overview

Rara National Park covers just over a hundred square kilometres in Mugu and Jumla, in the far north-west, and exists principally to protect Rara Lake and the blue pine, spruce and juniper forest around it.

The lake sits at 2,990 metres and is nearly five kilometres long. Musk deer, Himalayan black bear, red panda and leopard live in the forest, and the water draws migratory birds through the winter.

It is among the least-visited parks in Nepal, reached by air to Talcha or on foot from Jumla, and it is the quietest place in this list by a wide margin.
